What does it mean to be present? How do we feel attended to, as family, as a friend, partner or as a patient? Being present starts with looking in the eyes of another and not speaking. breathing. listening without the fidget. Allow the story to unfold, to give your full attention to what is happening. Meditation teaches this to us, training our minds to focus on one point only. We learn to put aside distraction and be there now. Our culture is lacking in this quality, of people feeling heard. In our zest to see more patients, multi task and do more with less, what are we sacrificing? Can our practice teach us to breathe through discomfort, to be in it with someone and hold space?
